You are not inadequate, it is just difficult to keep up

Firstly, I would like to express that I am aware of the confusion and uncertainty that many people are currently experiencing, as they feel inadequate and more anxious. This results in a general difficulty in coping and regulating their emotions. However, it would be unfair and incomplete to solely attribute this to individual factors. The issue has a societal dimension, and as a result, it contributes to an increase in psychological problems within society.

In psychology, there is a concept called "system theory." Perhaps you have heard of it. We are all part of a larger system, and not being able to adapt to changing circumstances can be challenging for us. We know that the process of change can be painful and confusing, as we do not always know the solution and try to live with uncertainty.

So, let's reflect together on the changes that have taken place in our system in recent years. The impact of recent economic and political changes in Turkey is significantly felt by individuals. Hence, it is essential to distinguish this from our feelings of inadequacy. Moreover, the new norms we have experienced since the pandemic, some returns to daily life, and global economic and social setbacks have all affected us as individuals. It is crucial to be aware of these changes and not burden ourselves unnecessarily.

At this point, feeling inadequate is entirely natural because, at times, we are unable to keep up. Confusion is also natural, which is why it is valuable to understand that we are currently undergoing a societal process and to try to understand the situation and ourselves while being aware of these changes. Please try to see the difference between feeling inadequate and not being able to keep up. You may have some areas that you need to work on where you feel inadequate, but there may be other factors contributing to your inability to keep up, such as the impact of societal and economic conditions on your life, and the extra anxiety it creates. We are all tired from this situation.

If you ask me what to do, my answer is that there is no magical solution. However, in this series, I will share some suggestions on how we can continue our journey while protecting ourselves and our loved ones better.

Warm regards,

Şafak
